An interesting coincidence led him to start taking photographs - after accidentally winning a free trip to the United States through raffles at a shopping mall in Tokyo, Tanaka started travelling with punk bands in the United States and Europe, acquired his first camera from one of the band members while being on the road, documenting the tour life.
He has won Cosmos Arles PDF Award at Les Rencontres d’Arles (France), TPD Book Award (Italy), among others. Selected for finalists and nomination for World Press Photo Global Talent, Book Award - PHotoESPAÑA Premio al mejor libro, Gomma Photography Grant, Kassel Dummy Award, etc. has had received several grants, participated in residency programs in US, Europe and Asia. Published seven monographs in America, Europe and Asia.


福引にて特賞海外旅行に当選、初めてのアメリカ旅行へ。 現地で知り合ったバンドのツアーに同行するうちカメラを譲り受け写真を始める。
